Seat of the bishop's curia
Documents show that from the 14th to the 17th century the bishop's curia stood on this site. The present building was erected in the second half of the 15th century next to the cathedral in Kamień Pomorski, on the site of an earlier 14th-century curia manor of the Pomeranian bishops.
Renaissance remodelling
In 1568 the building was thoroughly remodelled in the Renaissance style. The interiors and façades were altered, and the gable was covered with tracery, fashionable at the time, echoing the decoration of the ducal residences of the Griffin dynasty. A similar tracery motif adorns the west gable of Kamień's town hall.
What to look out for
Notable features are the late Gothic tracery gable on the north side, the 16th-century oriel window on the west wall — counted among the best works of its kind in Pomerania — and the three-flight staircase inside.
After the war and today
After it was rebuilt following damage in the Second World War, the palace housed a public library. Today it holds the church archive and serves as the base of parish groups, and in summer its interiors are sometimes used as exhibition rooms.
